Should I disable file vault before any downgrade…?

Greetings…!

I am currently running El Capitan 10.11.6 with File Vault enabled. I am considering upgrading to Sierra once it is released, tomorrow. However, if it causes problems or I simply don't like it and wish to downgrade should I disable File Vault before beginning that procedure? If I downgraded I would probably downgrade to Mavericks, as I much prefer it.

Thank you in advance for any future assistance…

Thank you, I shall remove before and if I decide to downgrade. Any one know the time OS Sierra is released in British Islands…? I am assuming it is midnight on 20 September, am I correct…?
